Where did the Affenpinscher breed originate?

The Affenpinscher dog breed, also commonly referred to as the Monkey Dog, is a small breed dog that originates from Germany. This breed makes for a great house pet. It typically grows to be only about 10 inches tall and usually weighs between 7 and 8 pounds. This breed comes in a variety of coat colors including black, gray, red, black and tan, silver and beige. If cared for properly this breed can live up to 15 years.

Characteristics, behavior problems and qualities of the Affenpinscher breed

This breed is very intelligent, affectionate and loyal to its owner. However, it is not the best pet to have if you have very small children in your home. This dog has been bred to be a vermin hunter and may hurt a small child. It gets along with most other house pets and it a relatively quite toy dog to have around.

Care, health and grooming for the Affenpinscher

To care for and groom the Affenpinscher breed you will need to use a dog brush that is designed especially for wiry hair to brush its coat at least three times a week. You will also need to make sure that you clean out its ears, brush its teeth and trim its nails at least once per week. This breed makes a great pet for smaller homes, condos or apartments because it requires very little exercise and space. However, they are an active breed that will need a safe place to play.
