Travelling With Your Puppy – How to Train Your Puppy to Travel Well With You

Puppies are never happier than when we spend time with them. Travelling with them is no different, they just adore attention and love to be included in all family activities.

Before setting out with puppy on your first car ride you need to ensure that you have the means to restrain him. An excited dog jumping from seat to seat and spurred on by every new scene that flashes by his window could well become a safety issue. So a calm and controlled pet, settled for the trip is more likely to make the experience enjoyable for all.

Preparation is also important. Very little effort is required to avoid travelling disasters. Before setting out make sure that puppy is fed only lightly. By reducing the amount of food and water that he consumes you will reduce the risk of him becoming ill in the car. Stop as frequently as you can to enable him to stretch his legs a little and find a tree for a bathroom stop. Failure to do this could result in an unpleasant trip for all and a nasty smell that lingers in your vehicle.

It is a good idea to ensure that puppy has plenty of fresh air and cracking a window open a little helps. Opening a window sufficient for him to travel with his head outside the vehicle though, can be dangerous for him even though he will likely love it.

If you stop for any length of time be careful about leaving puppy locked in the car by himself. If the day is warm he can quickly overheat and become dehydrated. Leave a little water for him, keep the time you are away to a minimum and ensure that he has fresh air. The best solution is to take him with you if you can.

Puppy will love to travel with you and will soon learn to recognize trip preparations and become excited in anticipation. With just a little thought and preparation training puppy to travel with you can be easy.
