Overview

There is a great deal of speculation about the origin of the French Bulldog, and the most common believe is that they originated from the miniature bulldog that was brought to France by workers from Nottingham at the time of the industrial revolution. During the 1860s, the export of miniature bulldogs became so popular, that they almost died out in England. Many believe that they were then crossed with the Terrier Boule, which resulted in the French Bulldog. During 1896, the French Bulldog made its first appearance in the United States at the Westminster Kennel Club show in New York.

Overview

The German Pinscher dates as far back as the late 1700’s and was formally recognized as a breed in its mother country in 1879. The first German Pinschers were documented by the mixture German Pinscher Schnauzer Club as the breed was used in the development of the Schnauzer and the Doberman and Miniature Pinscher. The breed standard was then developed during 1959 and initially included two extra colours, a pure black and a black and silver. During the first and second World Wars, the German Pinscher almost died out. But a dedicated breeder, Werner Jung, was capable to smuggle out a dog and breed him with another Pinscher breed female.

German Shorthaired Pointer - Dog Breeds

Overview

The German Shorthaired Pointer breed was first bred during the 1800s for hunting purposes. They were created by crossing the old Spanish pointers with several other breeds such as scent and tracking hounds; Foxhounds, Italian Pointers, German Tracking Hounds, German Bird Dogs and English Pointers. This mixture produced an open, lean, hunting dog with great flexibility, being capable to retrieve both fur and feather, on land and water. These dogs do very will in companion hunting as well as field trials, hunt tests, tracking trials and as show dogs.
Temperament

This breed was bred to be a family friendly dog as well as a hunter. German Shorthaired Pointers should affectionate and clever dogs that are easy to train. They are happy, gracious and very sociable. German Shorthaired Pointers love children and will get along well with them, but some puppies can be too lively. If taught from puppyhood, these dogs can as adults make wonderful companions to children. This breed makes an outstanding watch dogs seeing that they are so protective and loyal to their families.

Overview

The German Wirehaired Pointer was first bred in the late 1800s and in the beginning of the 1900s in Germany. The origin of this breed is based on the thoughts of Sigismund Freiherr von Zedlitz und Neukirch. It was cautiously crossbred from the German Pointer and numerous other breeds. Not everyone agrees on all of these breeds, but it is believed that these breeds were the Wirehaired Griffon, the Poodle-Pointer, the Foxhound and the Bloodhound. In Germany, the Wirehaired Pointer is the most popular dog. It was however only formally recognized during the 1920s.
